Rechtzeitig zur Fußball-WM 2006 der Text der britischen Nationalhymne. Der Autor der ersten beiden Strophen ist übrigens unbekannt. Die dritte stammt von einem gewissen W. E. Hickson (1803-1870).

God Save the Queen (englisch "Gott schütze die Königin") bzw. God Save the King (engl. "Gott schütze den König") ist seit Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts die Nationalhymne des Vereinigten Königreichs von Großbritannien und Nordirland. Die Urheberschaft für Text und Melodie wurde vom Sohn Henry Careys für seinen Vater beansprucht. Während der Text durchaus von ihm stammen könnte, ist der Ursprung der Melodie unklar geblieben. Daneben gelten das Lied Rule Britannia und Arthur C. Bensons Land of Hope and Glory zur Melodie von Sir Edward Elgars Marsch Pomp and Circumstance No.1 als "inoffizielle" Nationalhymnen Großbritanniens.
